Mammary augmentation

This procedure is intended for women with small breasts, or whose breast volume has been reduced by pregnancy, breast-feeding or dieting.

THE PROCEDURE

Breast augmentation requires general anaesthesia.
It consists in inserting a breast implant filled either with silicone gel or with physiological serum.

The surgeon makes a small incision next to the areola, introducing the implant either between the mammary gland and the large pectoral muscle, or behind this muscle, if the patient does not have sufficiently thick skin, in order to ensure a natural appearance.

THE AFTER-EFFECTS

Two days at the hospital are usually sufficient. Generally, the patient leaves the clinic the day after her procedure. A sports bra must be worn day and night for one month after the operation. In some cases, an elastic bandage is also applied below the breast and worn day and night for 15 days.

This is intended to ensure that the implant is properly positioned in the locule.
The procedure is somewhat more painful when the surgeon places the implant under the muscle. The patient is limited in her movements for a few days and must not lift any heavy weights.
